   What is Heat Sink?
A Heatsink is a heat exchanger that transfers the heat. Heat may be generated by an electronic or a mechanical device to a fluid medium, often air or a liquid coolant. Heatsinks are used on a wide range of electronics, which range from CPUs to motor drivers. A Heatsink may be used to lower the duration between Portal hacks. Heatsinks are a sort of equipment which can be mounted on a `Mech to both increase the utmost heat threshold and the speed at which excessive heat is dissipated

Types of Heatsinks:
The heat sinks are classified into various categories based on unique criteria. Some major types are:
·         Aluminum Extrusion Heatsinks
·         Stacked Fin Heatsinks
·         Vapor Chamber Heatsinks
·         Custom Heatsinks
·         Optics Heatsinks
·         PCI-E Heatsinks
·         Advanced Thermal Solutions
·         Skived Fin Heatsinks
·         Heatpipe Heatsinks

Aluminum Extrusion Heatsinks:
Aluminum Extrusion heatsinks are appropriate for volume requirements and oftentimes sample prototypes can be bought. Aluminum Extrusion Heatsinks can be created in a large variety of shapes. They are the most commonly used type for thermal management. Aluminum Extrusion heatsinks might be excellent solution when you would like to continue to keep your tooling costs low and still accomplish a low per piece cost, together with little if any secondary machining.

Stacked Fin Heatsinks:
A high pressure is used to press the single fins, multiple fins and single extrusions together to form a Stacked Fin Heatsink. In the cooling structure top and bottom base plates are used for mounting the power devices which helps in the low development cost. Stacked Fin Heatsinks are widely used in the cooling of high power devices such as generators, power inverters and transformers etc.

Vapor Chamber Heatsinks:
Sealed copper plates that are filled with a small amount of fluid such as de-ionized water are used in the construction of Vapor Chamber Heatsinks. There is an internal support structure inside the Vapor Chamber Heatsinks to prevent the buckling of chamber walls.

Custom Heatsinks:
For the most challenging applications a Custom Heatsink is a good choice. By customizing the standard heatsinks, cost and prototype time can be reducing. Custom Heatsink can be classified into the following types:
·         Machined Custom Heatsink
·         Extruded Custom Heatsink
·         Casted Custom Heatsink
·         Die-Cast Custom Heatsink
·         Forged Custom Heatsink
·         Stamped Fin Custom Heatsink

Optics Heatsinks:
For advanced Heatsink designs, Optics Heatsinks are becoming higher powered. Some types of the Optics Heatsinks are:

·         Ganged Heatsink concept
·         Heatpipe enhanced Optics Heatsink
·         Large Optic Heatsink with thermal pad
·         Long Heatpipe Optics Heatsink
·         Nickel plated copper Optics Heatsink
·         Optics Heatsink with Heatpipe base
·         Optics Heatsink with remote radiator
PCI-E Heatsinks:
For PCI Express (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) card,PCI-E-Heatsinks are specially designed. Format specifications of PCI-E-Heatsinks are developed and maintain by the PCI-SIG (PCI Special Interest Group) that is a group of more than 900 companies that also conventional PCI Specifications. Some examples of PCI-E-Heatsinks are:
·         PCI-E Pushpin Heatsinks
·         Dual Heatsink for PCI-E Add-On card
·         Copper Heatsink for PCI-E Add-On card
·         Aluminum Plate Fin Heatsink for PCI-E card
·         Heatsink for PCI-E compute engine with a high capacity flash storage card

Advanced Thermal Solutions:
Advanced Thermal Solutions involves the innovation, high quality and cost effective thermal management. Examples of Advanced Thermal Solutions are:
·         Base plate enhanced with embedded Heatpipes
·         Machined Metal Rail Prototype
·         Large external housing heatsink
·         Large fully fabricated baseplate with Heatpipe
·         Liquid cooling cold plate
Skived Fin Heatsink:
A thin finned heatsink with a dense population of uniformly shaped and distributed fins are used in the Skived Fin Heatsinks. That offers excellent thermal properties as compared with the other manufacturing methods. Solid block of copper or aluminum are shaved into a finned heatsink. Types of Skived Fin Heatsinks are:
·         Large Footprint Skived Heatsink
·         All-Aluminum Skived Heatsink
·         Low Profile Skived Fin with Groove
·         Machined Features into Skived Fin Base

Heatpipe Heatsinks:
Heatpipe Heatsink is a sealed copper tube that is under vacuum that has the ability of rapid transfer of heat away from source. Embedded Heatpipes into the base of Heatsink spreading capability of the base and therefore the overall Heatsink performance can be greatly improved. Heatpipes are available in various shapes and sizes.
